Naff Christmas Presents Auction 2009 - Raises £360 for Charity

On Monday 19th January 2009, The Surrey Oaks held its 6th annual 'Naff Christmas Presents Auction'. We raised an impressive £360 for charity which was split equally (as in previous years) between St. Catherines Hospice and Tadworth Children's Trust.

So what got auctioned? Some really naff stuff. There was a drain un-blocker which later on was pumped full of air and demonstrated on a pint of beer, with predictable results! Then there was a colour changing solar powered garden light and another pair of knickers for Marcus! Then there were animal slippers a jewellery box and even a 'fold-up' walking stick. The highlight of the event was, as in previous years, the Dark Star prize, a free pint of each Dark Star beer that the Surrey Oaks sells in one year. This was accompanied by a collection of pump clips from the now closed Grand Union Brewery and their impressive One Hop series of beers. This was certainly not a naff present and the bidding for this was furious. Up and up went the bids but as they reached the dizzy heights of £60, there was only one person this was going to... Royston.

It was also great to see people bidding for presents for absent friends! Can you imaging how happy they'll be? What's better is that they can not re-auction anything next year, unless they pay the re-auction fee of £5!
