On Monday 9th January 2006, André worked his last shift behind the bar at The Surrey Oaks. Nothing special about that?
Well actually there is... Here is a South African previously working in publishing/IT who came over to the UK for a change, expecting to work at The Surrey Oaks for a couple of months. He arrived nearly six months ago(!) and was amazed by this stuff called 'Real Ale'. It tastes great, they are all different, wow! Then two weeks later, The Surrey Oaks held it's 10th Annual Beer Festival and André was in his element! Then there was the cider/perry, he liked that too and let's not forget the tequila and the bath (err... maybe we should forget that one!).
Amazingly André went one step further and guess what.... he joined CAMRA... fantastic.
We raise a glass (full pint of Real Ale of course) to André, a friend and a real hard worker. We'll miss you!
