On Sunday 10th July 2005, The Surrey Oaks played their first away Boule match of the season. We were invited to play at The Cross in Eversley Cross, a delightful location with, just across the road, the oldest functional cricket pitch in England!
It took a little while to familiarise ourselves with the sloping pitch, but this is all a part of Boule and familiarise ourselves with the pitch is exactly what we did! We were in danger of suffering a total whitewash, but following spirited comeback, the SOAKS team returned triumphant, with bottles of wine in hand (Champagne would have been nicer!).
Seriously though, we would like to thank the team from The Cross for their superb hospitality and for helping to arrange what everyone from the SOAKS believes was a truly fabulous and perfect day out.
There will of course be a re-match in the very near future. Watch this space!
