At the blink of an eye, the Surrey Oaks August Bank Holiday Beer Festival is over but at least we still have the banner above!
It was a great weekend with the weather being quite kind to us. We had a short heavy shower on Sunday followed by a chilly hour, before the sun re-appeared and warmed us all up. Clearly it warmed us up quite a lot as we sold more beer on this Sunday than ever before.
Our Beer List (see below) was one of the largest we have ever produced and an amazing 47 beers put in an appearance. OK, it's not quite GBBF standard, but it's not bad for our pub!
So time for Beer Of The Festival... any ideas? Well amazingly it's the same beer that won our May BH Beer Of The Festival! There's no doubt about it, Brew Dog make some really great beer.
| POSITION | BREWERY | BEER | FROM | ABV (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Brew Dog | Trashy Blond | Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire | 4.1% |
| Equal 2nd | Bowman | Eldorado | Droxford, Hampshire | 3.5% |
| Equal 2nd | Bowland | Daylight Robery | Bashall Town, Lancashire | 3.9% |
The editor of this site somehow managed to miss out on the first two... must try harder in future!
Anyway, as always there is a prize for someone who simply submitted beer scores back to the bar/tent. This year we had a few less score sheets handed back, probably due to a printing problem (we missed of the bit asking for the scores!). Anyway this was rectified on Saturday and the winner, drawn out of the hat, for the two bottles of wine was... David & Caroline Jennings. Congratulations!
If you didn't get to the festival, you might want to see some of the Flyers, the Final Beer List, Tasting Notes (painstakingly prepared by George Davis, thank you), etc... which are shown below.

You should also check our Current Real Ales section, on this website, to see what Real Ales / Ciders and Perries we are currently selling (we update the information at least once a week and as you'll see, it is almost a mini Beer Festival in itself!).
So does anyone know how much planning, organising and effort goes into a Beer Festival? Well there are a few people who do: Gabi our chef (who can't understand why so many people want chips at the Beer Festival!), Joe (who now knows where the refund button is on the till [sorry Joe!], and Nick and Chris and ..... loads of other helpers. There is one person missing from this list though, yes, you've guessed it, it's Ken the Landlord without whose massive efforts we simply would not have a Beer Festival at all. Therefore it goes without saying.. Thank you Ken and all your staff for once again making this such a fabulous Beer Festival!.
