On Thursday 23rd April, 2009, The Surrey Oaks hosted another one of its very popular themed meals. This time it was a special St. George's Day Celebration Meal.
As usual, Ken (who's finally discovered the Internet!) managed to dig out some lesser-known facts about St. George. Apparently he was born in Nicomedia (Turkey) and may never have actually slayed a dragon! He is the patron saint of a number of country's including Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal and Russia. (If you want to know more, ask Ken....).
As for the meal... it was very good, with the "Hot S'oaks Smokie" being up to the usual high standard. There was also a very generous and interesting cheese board.
Anyway, the menu (for those of you who missed out) is shown below: You can also click here for the better PDF version
