Another great Beer Festival drew to an end on Monday night. We didn't really have any rain to speak of, but it was wet early on Sunday, before we opened. It was a shame we did not see the sun much, but you can't have everything.
The entertainment all went well with only the Buckland Shag (Morris Men) being unable to make it on Friday due to a shortage of Morris Men. On Saturday the Café Racers (a Rhythm and Blues band) played a great set and the garden was seriously packed out. It certainly seemed everyone had a good time. On Sunday evening we were treated to Steve Winchester who took great pleasure in telling me he does not have TWO guitars, one of them is a citern! It did not really matter what it was called, the music was excellent. Finally on Monday lunchtime, The Frog Island Jazz Band played a mammoth set and it proved very popular with everyone, that garden being full of people eating, drinking and relaxing.
So what about the beer? Well in the end we had an impressive 41 beers and the final list is available below. Details of the changes are also listed below. Anyway, from this great list a Beer of the Festival had to be chosen. As ever, voting was close..............................................
| POSITION | BREWERY | BEER | FROM | ABV (%) | RATINGS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Ellend | El Divino | Ellend, West Yorkshire | 4.6% | 7 "A's" |
| 2nd | Bowman | Swift One | Droxford, Hampshire | 3.6% | 6 "A's" |
| Joint 3rd | Dunham Massey | Stout | Altrincham, Gts Manchester | 4.4% | 4 "A's" |
| Joint 3rd | Pictish | Motueka | Rochdale, Gtr Manchester | 4.5% | 4 "A's" |
Thank you to everyone who took time to mark the beers and as you know there was a prize of two bottles of wine for one lucky person who handed in their marked up beer list. The winner, drawn out of the hat, was.... Mark Siwicki. Congratulations!

Do also check our Real Ales section on this website. We always have a great choice of real ales, three of which change with every barrel.
Finally, (and that's exactly what Ken, the Landlord was thinking after all that hard work), we have to thank the man himself. Yes, without Ken's huge effort and that of his staff, these great events simply would not take place. So, without further ado, Thank you Ken and all your staff!. With that said, we're already looking forward to next May and another great festival!
