On Monday evening, 20th Feb, 2006, The Surrey Oaks held a Beer Tasting Evening in support of CAMRA's National Pubs Week (18thto 25th Feb, 2006) a promotion aimed at getting people back into pubs during what is traditionally a quiet time for pub trade.
The cost was £10 per head and a total of 10 beers were tasted.
Lots of bottled beers were sampled, with the majority coming from Belgium. There were also great beers from France and Germany.
This was a real eye opener and with each beer sampled, there was an interesting description (with tasting notes) read out by Ken, usually from one of Roger Protz's Beer Guides.
Not everyone agreed with Roger (or Ken!), but there was no doubting that very few of these beers had been tasted before.
This proved to be a popular event and is something we would like to do again.
